Prepare to go on vacation

Summer break is just around the corner! Are you planning to travel in your leased vehicle? Here's our advice on how to prepare for your long summer journeys with total peace of mind.

Prepare to go on vacation

What should you check before you leave?

Before setting off on vacation, it's essential to check certain parts of your car to ensure a safe journey.

  1. Levels
Check engine oil, coolant, windshield washer and brake fluid levels when cold. If in doubt, consult your owner's manual; there are also many online tutorials.

  2. Tire pressure
Check the recommended tire pressure according to your car's specifications, including the spare tire. Tire pressure can also be measured when cold.

  3. Lights
Check your car's lights: headlights, indicators, brake lights. Also check the condition of the brakes and windshield wipers.

What should I take with me?

  • Bring your identity papers and those of all family members, your driver's license and valid on-board documents.
  • Check that all papers are up to date. The documents you should always have with you are the registration certificate (green card), the conformity certificate, the insurance card, the tax sticker and the roadworthiness certificate.
  • Don't forget your safety vests, warning triangle, spare wheel (or repair kit) and first-aid kit.
  • In some countries, you may also need a vignette to drive on freeways. Check online what you need (well) before you leave. For most countries, this can be ordered online.

Good to know:

  • An orange light? Don't panic, you can still ride.
There's no need to call for assistance: just contact the brand's garage to make an appointment and explain the situation.
  • Red light? Stop the vehicle and call roadside assistance on (+352) 40 71 40.
You can also call assistance if your vehicle breaks down or suffers an accident and can no longer be driven: assistance is guaranteed within the hour in Luxembourg and within 2 hours abroad.
