Driving Change: The UK’s Electric Car Grant Scheme Just Got Real

The UK Government has put its money where its mission is and have recently launched a £650 million Electric Car Grant (ECG) Scheme to make EVs more affordable for everyday drivers.

Driving Change: The UK’s Electric Car Grant Scheme Just Got Real

From July 2025, buyers of new electric cars priced under £37,000 can now get up to £3,750 off—no paperwork, no waiting – as part of the UK’s “Plan for Change,” which aims to end petrol and diesel car sales by 2030.

How It Works

Two tiers of savings:

  • £3,750 for EVs built to top sustainability standards
  • £1,500 for other qualifying models

Who’s Eligible?

Cars must be:

  • Fully electric (zero emissions)
  • Priced under £37,000
  • Offer at least a 100-mile range
  • Include an 8-year battery warranty
  • Made by sustainability-certified manufacturers

More Than Just a Grant

The ECG is part of a bigger push:

  • £63M for home charging (even without driveways)
  • 180,000+ public charge points by 2029
  • £30M to help businesses go electric
  • £8M for NHS EV chargers
